Qualifying for the Japanese Grand Prix was red-flagged after Toyota driver Timo Glock crashed heavily during Q2. Glock was airlifted to hospital with wounded leg, also complaining of back pains.
The German driver, who was forced to miss Friday practice after being unwell, went off the circuit at the final corner and crashed heavily against the tire barriers. Although he immediately removed the steering wheel, it took several minutes for Glock to be extracted from the car.
The Toyota driver put his thumbs up as he was carried away in a stretcher.
Qualifying had already been red-flagged during Q1 after Toro Rosso's Jaime Alguersuari had went off at the Degner corner.
