Skip Barber Racing School LLC is today announcing that George Ayres, President and COO, has decided to leave the company to pursue other career interests. Recently elected CEO Michael Culver will assume Ayres' responsibilities. Both men will work together over the next few weeks to ensure a smooth transition for the company, its customers, sponsors, and partners.
Ayres joined Skip Barber in May, 2005 from the Ford Motor Company where he had been the Director of Ford's SVT Performance Group. While at Skip Barber he helped develop many new programs, including the High Performance Driving School, now featuring cars from Porsche, BMW, Lexus, and Lotus, the MAZDASPEED Racing School featuring the Mazda Miata-based MX-5 Cup race car, the popular MAZDASPEEDChallenge Race Series, and the recently introduced Skip Barber Superbike School Powered by KTM. Along the way Ayres also oversaw substantial improvements in the company's financial controls, operating systems, marketing practices, sponsorship activation, and OEM Events business. Most recently Ayres helped the company weather the economic storm caused by the global recession, moving swiftly to ensure the strength and continued market leadership of Skip Barber.
“The Board of Directors appreciates the work that George has done during his time at Skip Barber,” said Michael Culver. “He has enthusiastically created and embraced new ideas and his ability to effectively implement new programs is admirable. He has helped transform the company into a multi-brand rider/driver education institution. He will continue to be successful in his next challenge and I look forward to working with him in the future."
Reflecting on his experience at Skip Barber, George said, “Skip Barber Racing School is a fantastic company that delivers a truly magical experience for enthusiasts at racetracks all across the country. I've been lucky to have worked with so many great people over the past few years such as racers, instructors, racetrack personnel, supplier partners, and sponsors and they have all shown a true enthusiasm and respect for the Skip Barber brand, so I know Skip Barber will continue to grow and prosper.”
