A preliminary announcement of driver and team champions in the 2013 Prototype Challenge (PC) presented by Continental Tire class following Saturday's Petit Le Mans American Le Mans Series finale led to some brief confusion regarding the finishing order of the champions in that class.
Chris Cumming was originally announced as the PC driver champion and BAR1 Motorsports the team champion following their victory in the race. However, further examination revealed that the second-place finishing 8Star Motorsports team and drivers Ozz Negri and Sean Rayhall were not eligible to score points, as they were not full-season competitors.
IMSA rules stipulate that points are awarded as though the part-time competitors were not competing in the event, which allowed all full-season competitors to gain positions accordingly. As a result of a one-position gain for each, Mike Guasch (ABOVE) earned the driver championship by one point over Cumming, 142-141, and CORE autosport took the team title over BAR1 Motorsports, 148-145.
