Ferrari technical chief Pat Fry will miss the rest of the Spanish Grand Prix weekend after being diagnosed with appendicitis.
Fry was taken to a hospital in Barcelona on Saturday morning after visiting the Ferrari team doctor amid the suspicion that he was suffering either from kidney stones or appendicitis. The latter was diagnosed and Fry is undergoing a routine operation during the afternoon.
He will not be able to return to the circuit on race day but is expected to be fit in plenty of time for the Monaco Grand Prix in two weeks.
A Ferrari spokesperson confirmed that the loss of Fry did not have any detrimental impact on trackside operations because the problem was picked up early enough for the team to be re-organized ahead of free practice and qualifying.
