Sauber will give Formula Renault 3.5 championship contender Robin Frijns his first full test in a Formula 1 car at the Abu Dhabi young driver test next month.
The Dutchman, who is fighting for the Renault title as a rookie against F1 test drivers Jules Bianchi and Sam Bird, will drive on the first day of the test (November 6) before handing over to Sauber's regular reserve Esteban Gutierrez for the next two days.
Frijns had his first taste of F1 machinery earlier this year, when he was given a handful of laps in a 2010 Red Bull RB6 on demo tires at Moscow Raceway as his prize for leading the FR3.5 championship at the halfway stage of the season. He is on course to earn a full test with Red Bull at Yas Marina as well, as there is a day of testing on offer to the highest-placed driver at the end of the season who is not contracted to a rival F1 team.
While Bianchi leads the FR3.5 standings by five points going into this weekend's finale at Barcelona, the Frenchman is ineligible for the prize test due to his connections with Ferrari and Force India.
