IndyCar legend A.J. Foyt was expected to be released from hospital on Wednesday after undergoing successful back surgery in Houston on Tuesday.
The 78-year-old underwent a laminectomy procedure in the lumbar region of his spine in an effort to relieve sciatic nerve pain. The procedure had originally been scheduled for Wednesday; however, Foyt requested that it be brought forward to allow more time to recover.
He is expected to make a full recovery, and plans to attend next month's Indianapolis 500.
Takuma Sato gave AJ Foyt Racing its first IndyCar win in more than a decade with his victory at Long Beach on Sunday.
