TOPEKA, Kan. (Dec. 26, 2007) – Santa has one more present left under the tree, and it’s the Formula Continental and Showroom Stock B National Championship races. Catch the two one-hour programs from the 2007 SCCA National Championship Runoffs today on SPEED.
At noon (EST), all eyes are on two-time Formula Continental Champion Niki Coello, who starts from pole in his No. 81 pouredfoundations.com/Primus Van Diemen RF-01. Coello appears to have the race in hand until mechanical woes force him to retire on lap seven, giving the lead to Chas Shaffer in the No. 35 Goodyear/Redbullvendors.com Van Diemen RF00. The remaining laps are no picnic for Shaffer who has to hold off the No. 5 Goodyear/ICP/QuickSilver/OHLIN Citation Snipe FCZ of John LaRue. Find out who takes the checkered flag today on SPEED.
Next at 1p.m., it’s Showroom Stock B. Runoffs rookie Ken Flory grabs the early lead from polesitter Michael Scornavacchi Jr.’s No. 25 Hoosier/Phoenix/Carbotech Pontiac Solstice. Flory quickly builds up a three-second gap on the rest of the field, but it is erased when a full-course caution comes out on lap seven. On the restart, Lee Niffenegger goes from fourth to first in his No. 43 Honda/Hankook/Cobalt/DC Sports Honda Civic Si, but can only enjoy it until Turn Four, where Flory’s No. 8 Hoosier/Competition Graphics Pontiac Solstice retakes the lead. Turn on SPEED this afternoon to see if Flory can take home the gold medal at his first Runoffs.
