Giancarlo Fisichella will make his American Le Mans Series debut in the next round of the championship at Miller Motorsports Park on July 11.
The former grand prix driver has been drafted in by the Risi Ferrari GT team for a one-off appearance in a second entry. Fisichella is currently racing a GT2 Ferrari for AF Corse in the Le Mans Series alongside Jean Alesi and double class champion Toni Vilander, with the latter joining him for the ALMS outing too, four years after his last appearance with Risi.
Team boss Giuseppe Risi expects Fisichella and Vilander to be right on the pace in the GT class, where his squad leads the Ferrari challenge against the Corvette, BMW and Porsche teams.
"We are very much looking forward to welcoming Giancarlo to Risi Competizione and to the American style of racing," Risi said. "Since Toni was with us last, the level of competition and standard of entries in the GT class has risen sharply, but I'm sure that two such professional drivers won't take long to adjust to their new surroundings. At the present time, it is intended that the drivers will be with us for just this one race."
Risi's lead car will be driven by Gianmaria Bruni and Jaime Melo as usual, with the pair racing in both the ALMS with Risi and the LMS with AF Corse this year.
