Alastair Fisher, M-Sport Ford, Ireland 2012Alastair Fisher says a lack of commitment caused his Circuit of Ireland Rally-ending accident on Saturday morning.

The Ford Fiesta S2000 driver was running fourth overall when he went off the road on the first stage of the leg.

"There was some gravel on the edge of the corner," he said. "I wasn't quite committed enough and we ran wide. I wasn't committed enough and this upset the balance of the car. We spun backwards and hit the right-rear of the car, did a 360 and bounced between the banks. The impact knocked the oil cooler back into the wheel.

"The car was actually facing the right direction and we tried to drive on, but there was no chance of carrying on. It's a real pity, a real bummer when we were at home. We'd just settled in last night and there was a long way to go in this rally. We've got to put this to one side and get on with the rest of the year now."

Fisher is contesting a three-round Intercontinental Rally Challenge program in an M-Sport Ford alongside his World Rally Championship Academy programme this year.
