Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali says his team will not let itself get distracted from the work it still needs to do in the title chase by its emotional victory in the Italian Grand Prix.
Fernando Alonso delivered a crucial win on home turf at Monza on Sunday, putting himself back in the title hunt on a day that Lewis Hamilton failed to score. But although the team enjoyed the emotions of its success, Domenicali knows that only a big effort and steely focus will be enough to let it triumph in the World Championship.
"For sure, from the emotional point of view, this win was very important," said Domenicali. "You know me, I don't feel over the moon when we do such an incredible race, but I don't destroy myself when we don't do well. It has a special meaning, but we need to be very cool. It is important because we have closed down the gap to the leaders and we will keep fighting – even if Singapore will be not a good race. We never give up, that is our approach. "
Although Ferrari's strengths in aero efficiency, braking and traction helped it have the quickest car for Monza, Domenicali expects his team's rivals to be much stronger opposition in Singapore.
"Singapore is a track where you cannot be really relaxed until the checkered flag," he said. "Everything can happen at the last moment there. I cannot say where we will be. I feel that Red Bull Racing will come back again at the normal place where, apart from this race [in Italy], they were since the beginning of the season.
"McLaren will be strong as always and what we bring there I hope will help us keep the pace of our competitors. For sure what is important is to keep the consistency, and find the points, as that will be a key factor."
Domenicali also said that Felipe Massa would not be officially put into a supporting role for Fernando Alonso yet – even though his world title chances are very slim.
"For me and us, it is always a consideration that the team does the best for everyone – and we have not changed our position," said Domenicali. "We are very correct since the beginning, but maybe some other people were not. But we are happy with our approach."
