A memorial service for Tom Walkinshaw, who died last Sunday, will take place on Feb. 4 in Gloucester Cathedral. His funeral will be held in private.
The F1 and sports car team boss and former driver passed away from cancer at his home on Oxfordshire, England, on Dec. 12.
"It was Tom's wish to have a private family funeral," the Walkinshaw family said in a statement. "Martine and the boys are overwhelmed with the lovely messages and tributes which they have received and at the same time are extremely grateful to the media for respecting their privacy at this sad and difficult time.
"Tom's brave battle with cancer would have been harder without the faultless care he received from the hospital in Brussels, Foundation C.A.R.E. Cavell Action for Research & Expertise and, more recently, the invaluable support from the local Lawrence Home Nursing Team. The family therefore requests that should you wish to make a charitable donation, you might like to consider either of these organizations."
Walkinshaw's TWR organization achieved huge success in touring cars and sports cars, most famously with Jaguar at Le Mans and in the World Sportscar Championship. He was pivotal in Benetton's rise to Formula 1 championship victory with Michael Schumacher in the early 1990s, and later ran the Ligier and Arrows F1 teams.
