The Edmonton Journal reports that the Canadian city's council will decide at the end of this week whether to support a deal that could revive the canceled Edmonton Indy car race.

The city is willing to provide $5.5 million in sponsorship money and $1.5 million worth of police, transit, fire and other free services over three years to support the race. However, city officials were unable to reach agreement with new promoter the Octane Racing Group on who would fund the approximate $5m cost of moving the track from the west side to the east side of Edmonton's City Centre Airport, and when a deal could not be struck by Octane's Oct. 29 deadline, the event was canceled. Since then, however, city business leaders have been working to find another solution.

"There was very positive support from the business community," Richard Skermer, a member of the Raceweek Edmonton group of business leaders that has been working to restore the event, told the Journal. "The administration was very creative in coming up with solutions that won't cost the taxpayers any more money."
