Bernie EcclestoneBernie Ecclestone has retained his place as Formula 1's wealthiest person in the annual Rich List published by Britain's Sunday Times newspaper, as figures from motorsports showed well in the top pro athletes category.

Ecclestone was estimated to have a worth of £2,500 million ($4 billion) – an increase of £1,125 million ($1.8b) from last year – which puts him 23rd overall in the list of the top 1,000 British earners.

Former F1 driver Eddie Irvine was sixth with £80 million ($129.6m), ahead of 1979 F1 champ Jody Scheckter at £60 million ($97m), Prodrive boss David Richards at £58 million ($94m) and past and present GP drivers David Coulthard and Lewis Hamilton tied with £50 million ($81m).
