Munich Stadium DTM planThe DTM will hold a Race of Champions-style knockout event in Munich's Olympic Stadium next July, it was announced today.

Series promoter the ITR revealed that a two-lane track will be laid out in the stadium, and a two-day exhibition knockout event will take place with the entire DTM grid taking part.

The race format will include pit stops – with cars completing three laps of the track, then pitting, then racing for another three laps.

Saturday's on-track activity will represent a qualifying event, while Sunday will be considered race day.

"We want to bring the DTM to the fans," said ITR boss Hans Werner Aufrecht. "With this event we will set a new benchmark. The fans can look forward to a very special atmosphere – it will be dramatic and spectacular."

Aufrecht added that the ITR will look into the possibility of the event counting for championship points in the future.
