The technical specification of each of the cars competing in the DTM has already been frozen for next year.
The new generation of cars came into force this year with Mercedes, Audi and BMW all producing models that featured over 50 control parts. Despite cost controlling being a prime factor in the new rules, developments have been trialled during in-season testing for 2013.
Series organizer the ITR announced on Sunday that the deadline for homologation of the definitive-spec cars for 2013 passed on Oct. 15. ITR chairman Hans Werner Aufrecht said that the decision would guarantee that the close nature of the championship would be continued next year.
"We have seen great competition this year," he said. "All three brands were capable of winning and at an equal level. For us, maximum safety for the drivers and calculable costs for the manufacturers are significant cornerstones of our strategy, particularly in economically challenging times."
Hans-Gerd Enneser, board member of German motorsport governing body the DMSB, added: "The 2012 DTM generation has proven that the technical regulations, the result of a joint effort by the DMSB, ITR and the participating manufacturers, worked perfectly.
"The regulations were a guarantee for a unique equality of chances, so that all the manufacturers involved have scored race wins and the battle for the overall title remained open until the final round. In 2013, we want to continue our progress in this successful way."
