Andrea Dovizioso was relieved to hang on to third place in the Dutch Grand Prix after a tire vibration developed in the closing stages. The Honda rider had enough of a cushion over fourth-placed Valentino Rossi's Ducati to still complete the podium.
"I was going a little bit slower and I tried to save the rear tyre because a vibration started," Dovizioso explained. "I was scared because it was becoming bigger and bigger, but fortunately Valentino wasn't so fast so I could control the big gap. It's a really good result in these conditions and at this track."
Dovizioso had moved up to second at the start amid the collision between Marco Simoncelli and Jorge Lorenzo, but eventually lost the place to his Honda teammate Casey Stoner.
"I tried to stay with and follow Casey but I couldn't keep up that lap time all the race," said Dovizioso.
