Germany's Auto Bild Motorsport reports that Bruno Senna sat out the British Grand Prix in favor of Sakon Yamamoto as punishment for writing an e-mail critical of his HRT team boss Colin Kolles – which he sent to Kolles by mistake.
The magazine's report said Senna's missive was highly critical of Kolles and his management style, and that the Spanish team's boss then benched Senna for insubordination, rather than for sponsorship reasons, as was widely assumed. Officially, the team said it merely wanted to give its test driver Yamamoto some race experience.
