Paul di Resta is not getting carried away with Force India's strong pace so far in Singapore, but sees no reason why the team cannot maintain its form.
The Scotsman and his teammate Nico Hulkenberg were sixth and seventh fastest in practice at the Marina Bay circuit - to continue a run of good speed shown recently. Although Friday form is far from conclusive, especially on a street circuit, di Resta was upbeat about what he had seen so far.
"Regardless of it being a Friday, we will still take it," said di Resta. "We can be happy tonight - but we take nothing for granted tomorrow. I've learned not to get carried away, which is why I am focused on making sure we are in this position tomorrow - because if we are it would be a remarkable result."
On Friday pace, Force India was the fourth fastest team behind Ferrari, McLaren and Red Bull – but di Resta says Mercedes and Lotus still cannot be discounted.
"It's not Saturday yet, is it? I think today we have had a productive day. We have gone through what we had to both on the lower fuel and the higher fuel end.
"I think it has just been a standard program, nothing really different. The car has been performing quite well and hopefully it will carry on until tomorrow and no alarm bells will be raised after FP3
"Obviously Mercedes came here saying they have a big upgrade, so they could be doing anything, and don't forget Lotus, they should have won some races this year...."
