Anthony Davidson has been transferred to a local hospital for checks following his huge crash in the Le Mans 24 Hours.
The Briton's Toyota TS030 flipped through the air then slammed into the barriers following contact with a GTE Am class Ferrari at Mulsanne corner five hours into the race. The Toyota team's director of business operations Rob Leupen told AUTOSPORT that Davidson appeared to have escaped serious injury.
"Anthony is in the medical center and the good news is that he is walking and talking and seems OK," said Leupen. "He will be going to the hospital for further investigations. "We don't want to comment about the circumstances of the accident at the moment, we're just happy that Anthony is OK."
Davidson was passing the #81 AF Corse Ferrari driven by Piergiuseppe Perazzini at Mulsanne corner when contact was made. Both cars spun, with the Toyota becoming airborne and flipping before landing upright and skidding into the barriers. The Ferrari rolled onto its roof after a violent side-on impact that damaged the barriers, but Perazzini got out of the car unaided.
The race continued behind the safety car while barrier repairs are completed.
