Davey HamiltonIndyCar Series veteran Davey Hamilton is to return to the Indianapolis 500 with Dreyer & Reinbold Racing this year.

The 46-year-old American was a championship regular from 1996 to 2001 before suffering severe leg injuries in a crash at Texas Motor Speedway. The accident ended Hamilton's full-time career, but he remained with the series as a commentator and driving the promotional two-seater car, before contesting the last two Indy 500s with Vision Racing.

"Having known (team owners) Dennis Reinbold and Robbie Buhl since I started running IndyCar, I'm very excited about teaming with Dreyer & Reinbold Racing this May," said Hamilton.

"We've talked about working together in the past and now that (respected engineer) Larry Curry is at DRR, my history with him at Vision Racing will help to tie everything together giving me a better chance to be as competitive as ever."

Hamilton is the third driver to be announced at Dreyer & Reinbold for Indianapolis. Mike Conway is racing for the team for the full season, and D&R will run John Andretti's Indy entry in association with Richard Petty.

Darren Manning is currently driving Dreyer & Reinbold's second entry on a race-by-race basis, while Milka Duno has also been linked to a return to the team for a partial program after the collapse of her proposed Newman/Haas/Lanigan deal.
