GP2 squads DAMS and Arden could compete in Formula Renault 3.5 next year after applying to join the championship.
French squad DAMS, which ran Romain Grosjean to the GP2 drivers' title this year, plus Arden, which fields cars in both GP2 and GP3, were among the 18 teams unveiled by series organizers as having submitted applications for the 2012 series.
As well as DAMS and Arden, the other new teams that have submitted entries are Van Amersfoort Racing, which ran Richie Stanaway to this year's German F3 title, Formula Renault teams Koiranen Motorsport and Atech Reid, plus Max Travin Racing – another entrant in German F3.
Twelve of the 13 teams that have competed in FR3.5 this year have also submitted entries for the new season, which will feature an all-new car. The only current squad that will definitely not continue is Mofaz, which confirmed last weekend that it was closing down its FR3.5 operation.
The championship's organizing committee will announce the 13 successful teams on Oct. 17, with two standby squads also being named.
