Cal Crutchlow's hopes of a strong result at his first MotoGP home grand prix have been dashed after the Briton suffered a fractured left collarbone and concussion in qualifying at Silverstone.
Crutchlow had flown in practice and had set his sights on a front row start for the British Grand Prix. But as he started his third lap of qualifying, the Tech 3 rider lost control going into Farm corner, falling heavily onto his left side. He immediately clutched his left shoulder and was taken away by stretcher. He was subsequently diagnosed with a fractured left collarbone and concussion.
Crutchlow's team-mate Colin Edwards suffered a broken collarbone of his own at Catalunya a week ago, but has returned to racing at Silverstone this weekend after surgery.
