David Coulthard may have impressed fans during a demo run at the Rajiv Ghandi Sea Link in Mumbai, but the Scot made sure organizers did not get their security deposit back.
The Scot drove across the cable-stayed bridge at 162mph, despite having been warned not to go over 100 kph (62mph), the prescribed speed limit over the bridge.
Coulthard's exuberance, while impressing the 50,000 fans who attended the event, did not please the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation.
"We respect David for helping put the Link on the global map. But he crossed the speed limit and we will have to recover the penalty. We will not return the organizers' deposit," said a senior MSRDC official.
Organizers had paid $71,500 to the MSRDC, of which $18,000 was held as a deposit.
