Albert Costa Robert Wickens Formula Renault 3.5 Paul Ricard

Epic Racing's Albert Costa has been disqualified from his second place in Saturday afternoon's opening Formula Renault 3.5 race at Paul Ricard after the Spaniard's car was found to be 2kg underweight.

"The car is still in parc ferme at the moment so we don't know exactly why it shouldn't meet the weight or be different to my car," said Costa's teammate Sten Pentus.

"I am not sure if he went over a curb and damaged something or there was some other problem. The only thing I did differently than him was go through the pits twice on my way to the grid.

"For a new team Epic is doing a great job. They have done well with Albert since the start of the season, and things are getting better for me since Silverstone. Moments like this are difficult when everyone has been working so hard to make the car faster."

Championship leader Robert Wickens (Carlin) is promoted to second, while Brendon Hartley claims third place for Gravity-Charouz.
