Corvette Racing turned its first laps with the successor to its championship-winning C6.R in private at Road America earlier in the week, and made the last-minute decision to reveal its brand-new 2014 challenger in public in front of a surprised crowd at the Monterey Motorsports Reunion on Saturday.
"The Corvette Celebration at Laguna Seca was the perfect setting to provide a glimpse of things to come by doing a few laps with the new Corvette C7.R race car," Mark Kent, Director of Racing for Chevrolet, told RACER
As the featured marque of the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, Corvettes of every generation can be found throughout the paddock, but the brand kept the two demonstration laps--turned by factory driver Tommy Milner--under wraps until the camouflaged V8-powered GT racer was fired and pulled out from its garage.
Of note, four large vents straddled the primary radiator inlet at the front of the C7.R, significant front fender vents sit aft of the wheels and a similar fans and exit ducting arrangement can be found at the back of the car. Details regarding the rest of the car have yet to be released.
Based on its looks, which features sharper lines that closely follow the production C7 Stingray, General Motors will have another crowd favorite on its hands.
