Dreyer & Reinbold Racing's Mike Conway topped the final day of testing at Infineon Raceway, in preparation for next weekend's Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma, backing up his previous day's performance when he had again topped the speed charts. The Briton lapped the road course in 1min17.48sec, to edge Penske Racing's Ryan Briscoe by 0.28sec.
The rookie told Infineon Raceway's official website: “Yesterday was more of a shakedown for us to make sure we don't have any problems today. On these test days, it's really crucial that you can back to back test things because on a race weekend, you don't get enough time. I think we should be looking good for next weekend, and I'm looking forward to coming back.,
HVM Racing's EJ Viso was a surprising third quickest for HVM Racing with a 1min17.94sec, just 0.04sec ahead of Dan Wheldon. The 2005 IndyCar champion has struggled on road courses for much of his career in the series, and at Edmonton, Toronto and Mid-Ohio, both he and Panther Racing were left bewildered by their slow lap times. This test result would suggest some signs of a resurgence.
Former Chip Ganassi Racing teammate Scott Dixon edged Penske's second car of Helio Castroneves, followed by Justin Wilson (Dale Coyne Racing), Robert Doornbos (HVM), Raphael Matos (Luczo Dragon Racing) and Ryan Hunter-Reay (A.J. Foyt Racing).
Franck Montagny, who will pilot a fifth Andretti Green Racing entry in next week's race, set a best time of 1min18.91sec, while French compatriot Nelson Philippe, whose only previous ICS start this year was at the Indy 500, lapped the 12-turn track at 1min19.32sec for Conquest Racing. Philippe will compete in the Sonoma and Miami-Homestead races for Conquest.
