Conor Daly hinted in his RACER.com blog on Tuesday that he would have big news shortly, and it was duly announced today that the American GP3 race winner will get his first taste of F1
power this week with Force India team.
The program, to be conducted on Thursday at Cotswold Airport in Gloucestershire, UK, is one of the full-size aerodynamic tests
that teams are allowed to complete during the course of the season. The
focus is to measure aerodynamic forces to correlate with wind tunnel
data.
Daly, who scored his first GP3 race victory last weekend at Barcelona, visited the team's Silverstone
headquarters on Tuesday for a seat fitting (LEFT) and to familiarize himself with
the systems on the car. It was a chance to meet his engineering crew and
run through the functions on a Formula 1 steering wheel.
"Someone will have to pinch or kick me, because I feel like I'm dreaming," Daly, 20, posted on his website following the announcement. "I am so excited to get my first taste of a
Formula 1 car – but, more importantly, to have the opportunity to help
Sahara Force India develop their aero program.
"My career
is on a great path right now and this is a significant step for me in
understanding how complex a Formula 1 car can be. I want all of my
supporters to feel the same excitement that I'm feeling right now."
