With rain in the forecast for Saturday in Daytona Beach, teams and drivers are adapting their strategies for a wet Rolex 24 At Daytona.
Starting on the pole for the race, which gets under way Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET, Max Angelelli and his No. 10 SunTrust Racing Ford Dallara team plan to make the most of their track position advantage.
“It's definitely an advantage to be in the front row,” Angelelli said. “This track fits our car. This year, we finally got the package right, so we can go about setting up the car for the racetrack.”
Joining him on the front row is Oswaldo Negri, driving the No. 60 Crown Royal XR Ford Riley for Michael Shank Racing. He thinks the rain will turn the 24-hour endurance race into a series of shorter segments. Success depends on how teams deal with them.
“This is going to be a long sprint race,” Negri said.
The race will be televised on SPEED beginning at 3 p.m. until 10 p.m. Saturday, and from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday.
