Stefano Coletti, Trident, Abu Dhabi GP2 Asia 2011Stefano Coletti drove a faultless race to claim the GP2 Asia sprint honors in Abu Dhabi.

The Trident Racing driver made a great start from pole and did not put a wheel wrong as he romped to victory. Fellow front-row starter Sam Bird got too much wheel spin and was jumped by Giedo van der Garde, but the Dutchman's race was destined to be compromised. His Addax team had left something in the sidepod, which a team member retrieved just seconds before the cars left the dummy grid. A drive-through penalty was inevitable.

Bird inherited second, but spun the position away with just a handful of laps remaining while under no pressure.

This promoted Arden's Josef Kral to second and Bird's iSport teammate Marcus Eriksson to third. Race one winner Jules Bianchi (ART) took fourth after a storming drive, but his last-lap pass on Davide Valsecchi (AirAsia) took place with all four wheels on the grass as they banged wheels, so a stewards' decision will be required.

Michael Herck grabbed the final point for Coloni after a late-race pass on Rapax's Fabio Leimer, who had made a stunning start to run in the points for all bar the final few laps.

Yesterday's runner-up Romain Grosjean (DAMS) had to retire after a first-lap incident.
