Stefano Coletti will miss the rest of the GP2 season after it was confirmed he sustained two compression fractures in his back in a crash during race one at Spa.
The Trident driver ran over the back of Mikhail Aleshin's Carlin car as the Russian slowed when his engine went into safe mode due to running at reduced speed as the safety car had just been deployed. Coletti was unable to react in time, and when his car landed it caused a compression fracture of two vertebrae in his back.
Doctors took their time to carefully extricate the 22-year-old driver from his car, and he was then taken to a hospital for further examination. The recovery time for this type of injury means Coletti will miss the season finale at Monza, as well as Sunday's second race in Belgium.
