Chris HoyBritish Olympian cyclist Sir Chris Hoy will make his motor racing debut in a support race at next year's Australian Grand Prix.

Hoy, who took his gold medal haul to six at this year's London Olympics – making himself Britain's all-time winning Olympian as he overtook Sir Steve Redgrave's total – will race in the Mazda6 Celebrity Challenge at Melbourne.

"As a massive Formula 1 fan, this is an incredible opportunity and I can't wait to come down to Melbourne in March next year and race on the Albert Park circuit in the celebrity grand prix," said Hoy, 36.

Also confirmed to compete at Melbourne will be Australian track cyclist Anna Meares, who denied Victoria Pendleton gold in the individual sprint at the London games, and Matt Cowdrey, Australia's most successful Paralympian with 11 gold medals.

Hoy's fellow Olympic cycling gold medalist Jason Kenny recently made his own race debut, driving in the Ginetta GT5 Cup at Donington Park. He took a best finish of 19th.
