Johnny Cecotto has joined Trident Racing for the upcoming GP2 series, it was announced on Tuesday. The German, the son of former race driver Johnny Alberto Cecotto, made his debut with the team in the GP2 Asia series in Abu Dhabi. The 21-year-old will rejoin the team for the first collective test at Paul Ricard.
"I'm extremely happy to be back into the GP2 paddock with Trident Racing, as I have already worked with them and scored good results, too," he said. "The upcoming season will be really demanding yet decisive for me, and I will do all I can to get the best possible results with the whole team"
The team said it was in talks to fill the second, with Adrian Zaugg among the leading candidates. The South African will also be testing at Ricard.
"I'm really proud to have Johnny Cecotto in the team" said team boss Maurizio Salvadori. "He's very young but also extremely talented. We already worked together, and the respective feeling has been great, so I'm looking forward with confidence to the 2010 season. I'm sure we'll be able to show our full potential, also thanks to Johnny's support."
