Michael Waltrip Racing announced on Monday that executive vp of operations Cal Wells (LEFT) has left the team in what team co-owners Rob Kauffman and Michael Waltrip said in a release was a mutual agreement.
Wells was responsible for the day-to-day operations of MWR's three Sprint Cup Series team and one Nationwide Series team, which will field Travis Pastrana in his series debut Saturday at Lucas Oil Raceway.
"We want to thank Cal for his strong contribution to getting Michael Waltrip Racing to where it is today. We wish him the very best in his future endeavors," Kauffman said in the release. "We plan to go forward now with the solid management team that is in place, and bring MWR to the next level."
Prior to joining MWR for the 2007 season, Wells was the owner of PPI Motorsports. The team won two races with Ricky Craven. Wells brought his team into NASCAR after running Toyota-engined cars in CART Champ Car racing.
