While its sworn rivals Inter prepare for tonight's Champions' League final with Bayern Munich, AC Milan fans could take some solace in the fact that its Superleague Formula car, driven by Yelmer Buurman, topped this morning's free practice session ahead of round three at Magny-Cours in France.
Buurman, a podium finisher here in GP2, lapped the former French Grand Prix venue in 1m25.881s, 0.7sec clear of Roma's Julien Jousse – the top Frenchman of the five home drivers present this weekend.
Alvaro Parente was third fastest for Porto, a fraction slower than Jousse, as was fourth-placed Sebastien Bourdais of Olympique Lyonnais, who suffered an overshoot at the 180 corner late on in the second session.
Assen winner Davide Rigon was fifth fastest for Anderlecht, ahead of Franck Perera (Flamengo), John Martin (Beijing Guoan) and Franck Montagny (Bordeaux).
Bourdais had topped the opening 45-minute session, ahead of series leader Craig Dolby (Tottenham). Dolby was only 13th quickest in the second period, which was red-flagged for the spun car of Maria de Villota (Atletico Madrid) to be removed from a gravel trap.
