Jenson Button says the real pace of his McLaren team has been masked by the reliability problems the British squad has endured during testing.
Button had another disappointing session on his final day of testing at Barcelona, the Briton losing valuable time after McLaren decided to replace his engine as a precaution. Button covered 53 laps and finished as 13th quickest out of 14 cars.
Although the McLaren driver admitted it was a frustrating day, he believes his car has more pace than what it has been able to show.
"As today was my final day of testing, it was disappointing not to be able to put more mileage on the car," Button said. "But I think we learned some positive things: today was never about pace, as we weren't running lower fuel loads, but there is pace in the car – it's just been masked by reliability issues.
"Now, I'm looking forward to Melbourne: you can't underestimate a team as determined as McLaren: we're all pulling together and we've got some interesting developments in the pipeline."
