Pit Crew Challenge 2009Jeff Burton's pit crew beat Reed Sorenson's in the final of the fifth annual NASCAR Sprint Pit Crew Challenge in the build up to Saturday's All-Star Race.

The seven-man crews participating had to perform their individual tasks, such as changing front and rear tires, jacking up the car on both sides and refueling it in separate machines. After that they had to run towards the team's car and push it in a 40-yard stretch towards the finish line.

After beating another three teams, Burton's Richard Childress Racing #31 crew completed the final run in 22.115 seconds against the #43 Richard Petty Motorsports crew of Reed Sorenson, which had advanced through the previous rounds thanks to mistake-free performances, while all their rivals were hampered by penalties.

"I'm really proud of them," said Burton, whose wife Kim sat behind the wheel of her husband's machine during the competition. "They put so much effort into the pit stops, and they take this very seriously. They truly are athletes, and they work very hard at it."

Individual prizes were also awarded to the fastest crew members on each task. Earnhardt Ganassi Racing's #1 crew of Martin Truex Jr won in five out the seven tasks, the remaining two going to the Joe Gibbs Racing #18 team of Kyle Busch.
