Gordon Shedden will return to the British Touring Car Championship at Snetterton this weekend after replacing Dan Eaves at Clyde Valley Racing. Paul Luti is planning to graduate to the British Touring Car Championship next year with his own team, Dreadnought Racing. The 26-year-old Scotsman, who has been a regular race-winner in the Rover Metro Championship and the MG Trophy, wants to purchase an MG ZS from championship leading team WSR for 2010. Depending on finances, Luti's squad could receive technical support from WSR, which built and ran the ZSs for the works MG squad in 2002-03 and then on an independent basis for the next three years.

Menu continues Brands winning streak in World Touring

Alain Menu took a World Touring Car victory at Brands Hatch for the fourth consecutive year in today's first race. The Swiss driver, who is an expert around the British track after winning two BTCC titles during a decade in the series, converted his pole position into his 11th career WTCC victory. Menu's RML Chevrolet team-mate Rob Huff took the lead around the outside of Paddock Hill Bend as the pair worked to keep Andy Priaulx's BMW at bay.
 

Simoncelli wins 250cc at the Sachsenring

Marco Simoncelli has won the shortened and delayed 250cc German Grand Prix, after rain interrupted the first start. But it was a short drizzle that left the track dry by the time the 19-lap race was re-started half an hour later, with all riders starting on slick tyres except for Karel Abraham, whose gamble on wets didn't pay off. Gilera's Simoncelli dropped down to third from pole at the start, but Hector Barbera's Pepe Aprilia was soon overtaken on the first lap, after which the Italian made up a small gap to Alex Debon (Blusens Aprilia).
 

Rain interrupts and delays 250cc race

The 250cc German Grand Prix was red-flagged due to rain hitting the Sachsenring circuit while the riders were completing their first lap and will be restarted at 12:45 local time. The starting grid will remain the same as in the original start, but the race will only run for 19 laps rather than the originally-scheduled 29.
 

Vaulkhard to race for new team in BTCC

Mexican rookie Esteban Gutierrez drew first blood in the Masters of Formula 3 at Zandvoort by setting the fastest time in free practice this morning. Reigning Formula BMW Europe champion Gutierrez leapt to the top of the timesheet in the final minute of the half-hour session for reigning Euro Series champion and recent Masters dominator ART. His Dallara-Mercedes' 1m32.354s best out-did his reigning Formula Renault Eurocup champion team-mate Valtteri Bottas, who set a similarly late best time, by just 0.055 seconds

Jorge Lorenzo could not believe he had been unable to recover to second place in the Italian Grand Prix after crashing on the way to the grid and then squandering pole position with a poor start. The Yamaha rider fell as he tried to acclimatise to the wet tyres on his reconnaissance lap prior to the race, but was able to get the bike moving again and return to the pits in time to take his spare for the start - leaving the team to repair his original machine ready for the mid-race pitstops. He then tumbled outside the top ten after getting too much wheelspin off the line, yet managed to come back through the field and finish just a second behind winner and title rival Casey Stoner, and to beat his team-mate Valentino Rossi on home ground in the process

Paffett ends DTM victory drought

Gary Paffett sustained late-race pressure from Mercedes team-mate Bruno Spengler to take his first DTM win for two years at Lausitz. The Mercedes drivers moved up from fifth and sixth in the early stages of the race by leaving their pitstops later than those ahead. Paffett did not make his first stop until lap 25, while Spengler left his second stop late to make the same jump.
