British F3 start at HockenheimBritish Formula 3 championship organizers are proposing to increase the number of races at each round to three for the 2010 season.

A trio of full length races at each event would create a 30-race championship, following in the footsteps of the British Touring Car Championship which increased from two to three races per event in 2004.

Peter Briggs, a representative of F3 teams' organization, believes the move would improve the category's status as a training ground for young drivers.

"We believe that expanding the number of races in the championship to 30 is a logical extension of the policies which have helped the championship become the pre-eminent 'university of motorsport'," he said. "The cars are reliable and FIA safety-approved, there is a large but controlled testing mileage available and now three race starts every weekend. British F3 is first and foremost a drivers' series, and the best training there is."

British F3 promoter Stephane Ratel gave his support to the proposal: "We were very pleased to discuss the proposal for a 30-round season," he said. "It will be popular with spectators, great for TV and will make for an even more exciting and worthwhile championship. We look forward to working with themto make the idea come to fruition."
