Briscoe leads Indy at quarter distance

Ryan Briscoe has taken the lead from Dario Franchitti as the Indianapolis 500 passed its quarter distance point. Franchitti had led much of the opening part of the race having overtaken pole-sitter Helio Castroneves as the green flag flew after an early yellow for Marco Andretti and Mario Moraes' collision. Castroneves then lost out to Briscoe at the first pitstops, and subsequently fell behind Scott Dixon, although the Penske and Ganassi cars continue to run together in a lead quartet, with Andretti Green's Tony Kanaan just behind.
 

Penske still on top in morning practice

Ryan Briscoe and Team Penske continued their strong form in the final practice session prior to today's Pole Day qualifying at Indianapolis. The Australian's team-mate Helio Castroneves made it a Penske one-two, repeating yesterday's practice result, with Will Power taking a strong fifth in the third Penske entry. Ganassi was Penske's main rival again, with Scott Dixon and Dario Franchitti third and fourth fastest, although Franchitti stopped on track due to a gearbox problem 25 minutes from the end
