Fujitsu Racing's Jason Bright took a dominant pole position in the top-10 shootout for the first race of The Island 300 at Phillip Island. Bright had been fastest in the qualifying session before the shootout, and went even faster on his shootout lap to take pole position by nearly four-tenths of a second.
Alongside him on the front row will be Holden Racing Team's Will Davison, who moved up from fifth in qualifying, one place ahead of championship rival Jamie Whincup who qualified third. The two Kelly brothers were next, Todd ahead of Rick, moving up from ninth and eighth before the shootout, with Lee Holdsworth next in sixth.
The remaining drivers in the shootout had struggles on their laps. Craig Lowndes in seventh along with Mark Winterbottom in 10th had a couple of moments during their laps that cost them a chance of starting farther up on the grid, with Shane van Gisbergen and Fabian Coulthard starting between them in eighth and ninth.
Just missing the top 10 was Garth Tander in 11th, followed by the Jim Beam Racing duo of Steven Johnson and James Courtney. Russell Ingall was even further down the order in 17th in his Supercheap Auto Commodore.
Sprint Gas' Greg Murphy was disappointed with 23rd, after some good results in recent rounds, while 26th was a disaster for Ford Performance Racing's Steven Richards.
