Bob Bondurant is at Circuit of the Americas Tuesday and Wednesday. The world-famous driver and founder of the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving with his wife, Pat, president of the school, and school instructors will be hosting students, guests and members of the media Oct. 2 at COTA, which opened in 2012 outside Austin, Texas.
The all-day event at the 3.427-mile racing circuit, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., will include classroom instruction, video opportunities with the Bondurants and staff, lead-and-follow, hot laps in Bondurant-badged Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sports at approximately noon.
On-track instruction will be hosted by Johnny O'Connell, the Bondurant School's Vice President of Global Operations. O'Connell's pedigree includes 4-time Le Mans Winner, 8-time Sebring Winner, Daytona and COTA wins, as well as ESPN Commentator. Andy Lee, an instructor at the Bondurant School and professional racer will be instructing as well. Andy Lee was ranked 2012 Rookie of the Year and recently won at COTA and the World Challenge Race Series.
“The Bondurant School is looking forward to participating in this first-ever event at COTA,” Pat says, noting that Bob's many connections with Texas include driving for Lone Star State native Carroll Shelby in the 1960s, culminating in the World Manufacturers Championship in – the last time an American-led team has won. “We invite local fans and media representatives to join us for this great event and to also to wish Bob a ‘Happy Birthday' on his 80th this year.”
