America's Alexander Rossi and Mexico's Esteban Gutierrez will make their Formula 1 test debuts at Jerez next week with the team formerly known as BMW Sauber.
The pair were promised tests after winning the Formula BMW World Finals and Europe championships last year, and had looked set to miss out after the German manufacturer elected to quit F1 at the end of the 2009 season. However, BMW motorsport director Mario Theissen said that the commitment to both drivers had to be maintained.
"Depriving these junior drivers of the test we had promised them was not an option for us, even after the withdrawal of BMW from Formula 1," said Theissen. "BMW remains committed to motorsport and is keen to continue making a contribution to well-structured talent development."
Rossi won three times on his way to fourth place in International Formula Master this year while Gutierrez finished ninth in the F3 Euro Series.
