BK Racing has expanded its plans to run a third car for David Reutimann to eight Sprint Cup Series events, including this week's Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Reutimann will drive the team's No. 73 Burger King/Dr Pepper Toyota in each Cup race he doesn't drive for Tommy Baldwin Racing. Landon Cassill will remain in the No. 83 car and Travis Kvapil will remain in the No. 93 car for the rest of the season.
Reutimann has run two events with BK Racing this season, driving the No. 93 car in the Daytona 500 and the Southern 500 at Darlington.
"Everyone at BK Racing is excited to solidify a third car on our team for David Reutimann," said team boss Scott Gunderson. "I know that he will strengthen our organization with the talent and experience that he brings to the table. Reutimann has been a big part of BK Racing this year and we look forward to working with him for the rest of the season. I want to thank Burger King and Dr Pepper for helping make this happen."
BK Racing's No. 73 team has entered one event this season, with Kvapil behind the wheel at Darlington. Because the team runs a limited schedule, it was outside the top 35 in the owner point standings and had to qualify into the race. Kvapil made the show, qualifying 33rd and finished 32nd following a fuel pressure issue.
"The No. 73 team has already proven to be a contender," Reutimann said. "BK Racing has great equipment and personnel. They've shown that they can get the job done and I'm really excited to continue racing with them. We're already off to a good start and the team is continuing to improve. Travis and Landon are terrific teammates and I think having a third car among us will give us better information and more resources to keep strengthening."
