Alvaro Bautista has been declared fit to make his MotoGP return at this weekend's Portuguese Grand Prix after recovering from injury.
The Suzuki rider broke his left leg in practice for the season-opening Qatar Grand Prix 41 days ago, but earlier this week stated his intention to return for the Estoril race. Now, following a full examination from the series' chief medical officer, the 26-year-old Spaniard has been given the all-clear to compete in Friday practice, after which further checks on his condition will be made.
"I am really pleased I have been given the OK to ride, but I must now see what it feels like to get on a MotoGP bike," Bautista said. "I have done a bit of Supermotard riding and that felt good, but that is nothing like riding the [Suzuki] GSV-R. I will see how things go tomorrow morning and we will make a decision about the rest of the weekend after that."
Suzuki test rider Nobuatsu Aoki remains on standby to ride this weekend if Bautista is forced to withdraw.
