Australian Grand Prix organizers have announced that popular local band Powderfinger and Scottish rockers Simple Minds will play concerts at this year's Albert Park event.

Powderfinger, whose later album Golden Rule went multi-platinum, will play on the evening after qualifying in Melbourne, while Simple Minds will entertain race fans after the actual grand prix on March 28.

Simple Minds lead singer Jim Kerr said: "We are very excited to be playing at the Australian Grand Prix at the end of March and we hope our many Australian fans will come and join us for what will be a fantastic show.

"We heard great things about The Who and KISS shows at your grand prix over the last couple of years. To be able to come back to Australia as a key part of this year's grand prix and to catch up with our Formula 1 mates will be brilliant."

The concerts are free to all Australian Grand Prix ticket holders.
