Recognizing the need for changes, the Sports Car Club of America 's Board of Directors has begun actions based upon the report of the committee it commissioned to review events at the 2009 Runoffs A Sedan race and to make resulting recommendations. The committee was not asked to find fault in individuals, but was to focus on identifying what went wrong and how our processes can be modified to prevent situations like this from happening.
The report, prepared by John Bornholdt, Bob Corbitt , John Nesbitt, Jim Wheeler, and Kent Prather, provided recommendations regarding operating procedures, policies, facility design, operating tools and equipment, and organizational functions and communications. The layout of some of our facilities, the lack of harmonious working relationships between some of our specialties, the absence of CRB and staff involvement in determining the tech plan and, in some cases, not following our existing practices all contributed to the unfortunate outcome.
In addition to actions currently under way, the Board has directed that the Vice President of Club Racing, Terry Ozment, the 2010 Chairman of the Stewards, David Nokes, and the Runoffs Chief Steward, Jim Averett, report at the Board's May meeting the results of their initiating actions in response to the review committee's recommendations.
