Marco Andretti's hopes of ending his family's curse at Indianapolis ended after just one corner after he and Mario Moraes made contact in Turn One on the first lap of the 2009 Indianapolis 500.
The Andretti Green Racing driver was left fuming after the 20-year-old Brazilian appeared to move up on Andretti, squeezing him into the wall and causing an accident that caused both to retire.
"The kid just doesn't get it and he never will," Andretti told ABC Sports. "You would think that somebody would know that somebody is sitting right outside of you.
"He had nobody inside of him and he is just clueless out there. I was really worried about that before the start, and sure enough... It's so disappointing."
A tearful Moraes, whose KV Racing Dallara was heavily damaged on the right side, was quickly released from the medical center uninjured.
"All I know is that he hit me," said the shaken rookie. "I was holding my line, I was in front and he hit me. I don't know how and where yet."
Dario Franchitti, who won the event as well as the IndyCar Series title in 2007, currently leads the event after 20 laps.
