Marco Andretti continued to hold sway on the opening day of this weekend's IndyCar round at the Milwaukee Mile after setting the fastest time in the final practice session before qualifying.
Andretti, who also set the pace during morning practice, went to the top of the timing screens in the final minutes with a best lap of 21.6811 seconds. At an average of 168.534mph, it was just a shade down on Dario Franchitti's 168.737mph pole lap from last year.
Ryan Hunter-Reay was second fastest with a lap 0.05sec down on Andretti's, with Takuma Sato finishing up third fastest. Both drivers had taken turns at the top during the hour-long session, as did EJ Viso, who eventually finished up with the fourth-best time.
The largely uneventful session was interrupted by two brief spells under yellow flags, both of which were for track inspections.
