Fernando Alonso will have to start from the pit lane for the Monaco Grand Prix after his Ferrari team found it was unable to repair the damage caused by his Saturday morning accident.
The Spaniard lost control of his car at the Massenet corner earlier in the final practice session, swiping the barriers on the outside and badly damaging his F10. Post-accident inspection by the team revealed that the chassis itself had been damaged in the crash, perhaps by a piece of suspension.
The team is unable to fix the damage before Saturday's crucial qualifying session and, with Alonso requiring a totally new car, it means he will have to start from the pit lane for the race.
With Monaco being notoriously difficult to overtake on, Alonso will have a tough time fighting his way through the field as he seeks the points he needs to maintain his championship challenge.
