Alfa Romeo's Frankfurt Auto Show display will feature a newly decorated version of the stunning 4C Concept first unveiled at the Geneva show earlier this year.
The two-seater, mid-engined sports car is unchanged apart from a new paint scheme. At Frankfurt, in September, it will appear in "Fluid Metal" metallic silver, as opposed to the bright red it wore in Geneva.
Alfa has confirmed that it intends to build a production version of the 4C to go on sale next year. The 200hp-plus, mid-engined two-seater, which measures around 13ft in length with a wheelbase of less than 8ft, is likely to be the first of a family of small Fiat group sports cars over the next few years. As such, the Alfa showcases a new lightweight construction that promises a curb weight of under 1,875lbs, mainly through the use of carbon fiber and aluminum in the body and subframe. It is powered by a 1.7-liter turbocharged engine, as used in the Giulietta, and features a twin dry-clutch transmission.
Alfa has declined to specify a precise horsepower figure for the motor but it produces 232hp in other uses. It's powerful enough to take the 4C Concept from 0-62mph in “under five seconds” and on to a top speed “of over 250kph” (155mph).
The 4C has Alfa's take on double-wishbone suspension at the front and MacPherson struts at the rear; the front/rear weight distribution is 40/60. Alfa says the car will feature its "DNA" technology, which controls throttle response, steering and suspension settings.
